Where the Hell Have I Been?
06.18.09 | Life, Site News
Where the hell have I been? I feel like this is a bi-annual question I pose to myself and subsequently decide to explain to the world. I disappeared from this site once again for a few months and a lot has happened both in my life and on this blog.
My health has gone up and down recently and I’ve spent the majority of the last six months getting absolutely no medical care. This was either due to my insurance company deciding that they didn’t want to allow me to take the same drug I had been taking for three months before the lull or my doctor’s receptionist being incredibly lazy and dismissive towards my situation. I’m leaning towards the second guess because… well, she was extremely lazy and dismissive towards me and I can only imagine that she wasn’t faking it towards me and then becoming a diligent advocate in my defense with my insurance company. All of that is hopefully sorted out now and I have gotten my first (fifth overall, first on the new cycle) dose of the IV drug I’m on. I also had a procedure to check how I am internally. I’m exactly the same as a year ago, which made it completely worth it to spend a lot of money on prep medication, use up multiple days of my time, and stop eating for a day and a half. I’ll file that whole situation under “better safe than sorry” and “I would have bet my life savings that you’re wasting my time.”
As for the site, any one of you two to three avid readers have undoubtedly noticed that it has changed. The style is different and that’s on purpose. I’ve decided to go a slightly different route with this whole thing. First of all, Josh decided to spend a little less time on the internet and has left this blog to be my own monster. He might stop by from time to time to keep things sane or talk about some new drink.
While creating new drinks was fun, that was my least favorite part of this blog because it required me to take pictures and set up shots in bars when all I wanted to do was have fun. I would love to continue to create drinks more sporadically, so that will keep happening, but on a much less constant basis. The drinking stories on the other hand were my absolute favorite part of this site and almost as fun to relive through words as they were on the blurry nights that they happened. I also really felt like writing on a variety of other subjects, some life related and some on other topics, and had no outlet to do so. I know this is a large change, but this is more along the lines of what I had intended A Fifth of Vapor to be when I bought the site and created the name. I just needed the cocktail website to jump start me into figuring out what I really wanted to write on here. Hopefully, I’ll be posting much more frequently on here and maybe a few of you will find the new format interesting enough to discuss while sipping aged whiskey or just make fun of with your friends. Here’s to the upcoming lake Drinkathalon and Las Vegas trips!
Rant: I miss these. This is a quick one to point out that I hate how a lot of word processing programs use “smart quotes” that don’t comply with the internet very well. Writing this draft in Word and then copying it over to this blog created a ton of crooked quote marks. Luckily, I just found a solution for that. I’m in no way affiliated with the site, but if you’ve had the same problem as me, check this site out. Hope that helps and be ready for much more frequent posts.

Or you can stop typing your posts in Word like an old man and use either the WP drafts or Google Docs. Also, this plugin is money: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-typogrify/
Good call. I really like WP drafts, except when I used it I constantly forgot to back up my posts. I definitely old man some of these newfangled web concepts you crazy kids are using. Hope you don’t mind your face being on the header either, I can always make you the blurry faced guy haha.
