Las Vegas and the World Series of Beer Pong: Intro
01.1.09 | None
As I mentioned earlier in my Beer Pong with 151 Land Mines post, the AFOV crew is out in Las Vegas for New Years and the World Series of Beer Pong IV. We are taking our drinking exploits to the greatest beer pong tournament ever created, with most of the best players in the world all gathering at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino. This event has turned into to a yearly tradition for us, as we have played in the tourney each of the last two years, so all month of December has been filled with game after game of beer pong so we can show a little pride with a good showing. Cory and I will be playing as team Afternoon Delight, with the primary goal of making the final day of this tournament. The World Series of Beer Pong has previously consisted of two preliminary days with six games each in order to qualify for the playoffs, and this year is no different. It usually takes finishing in the top third of all teams in order to qualify for the final tournament, and considering we have finished only one game away from the tourney both years we have played, our goal clearly is to make it there this year. So cheer us on as we try to finish with an 8-4 record (our guess at the record it will take to make it), and possibly take home a little money in the process.
As for New Years, the night began rather slow, with us having to wait until almost nine for the person with the room reservation to make it into town. We all won some money at blackjack at the Sahara while we waited though, so nobody was complaining. Although I must say that a blackjack table should never be allowed to pay me 6-to-5 for a blackjack while I’m playing a standard six-deck shoe. Is the economy really that bad? C’mon Sahara… We ventured down the strip with grandiose plans of partying with girls somebody supposedly knew at the Palazzo or Venetian, and ended up being stuck in the middle of a giant crowd in front of Imperial Palace. Quite the contrast. We ended up getting drenched in booze because were standing in front of the Rockhouse club in front of Imperial Palace, with bartender girls dancing and tossing watered down champagne or whatnot all over the place. They did play a sweet song right at midnight, LMFAO’s ‘I’m In Las Vegas Bitch’ .. and Katy Perry’s ‘Hot and Cold’ played right after, which Cory proceeded to give me crap about because it was on my iPod on the drive up (I make no excuses, that song is catchy). Well the hotel party we were looking for fell through so we proceeded back up the strip to make our own hotel party back at the Sahara. Last I remember of the night was one of the best games of beer pong I have every played (4 overtimes with both teams shooting over 50% for the entire duration), and the dumbasses at the cafe downstairs that couldn’t figure out how to properly cook a frozen pizza when I’m starving at five in the morning.
