Lake Weekend, A Precursor
07.2.09 | Life
My parents have had a lakehouse south of Bakersfield, CA since before I was born. I’ve grown up there as much as I did in my hometown. I started skiing up there when I was 1½ years old, wakeboarding when I was 8, and I’ve been blowing things up for as long as I can remember. I’ve grown up with most of the kids there since we were all born and everyone is like family. With all of us getting older, going off to college, and generally becoming adults, we don’t see each other as often as we used to. One weekend, however, almost guarantees that we’ll all be at the lake at the same time, the 4th of July.
I’ve wanted to post about my lake house for a long time, but never really take any good pictures or get the motivation to do so. All through winter and most of the fall almost nobody is at the lakes. During the spring and summer seasons there are on average around six families up there, which totals to around 30 people. On 4th of July weekends, without question, there are almost always around 600 people there. I promise that somehow something epic will happen this weekend and this blog is where the story of epicness will be told. In the meantime, here are some pictures and a video I cut together from Memorial Day weekend to give you an idea of what a normal weekend is like. Multiply these by 200 partying kids, tons of families, and over $5,000 worth of fireworks and check back for my post next week.
