I’ve thought that I might die on more than one occasion in my life. The first time I can remember was when I was 8 years old and I crashed into a barbed wire fence on a quad runner. The most vivid time was when I was on a bike ride from Santa Monica to San Diego. We stopped at some beach near Camp Pendleton and I went swimming by myself. The riptide pulled me under and spit me out a minute and a half later, a quarter mile from the shore. I had almost blacked out and barely made it back to shore. Most recently, my disease made me lose almost 50 pounds and it started really scaring me into a Morgan Freeman/Jack Nicholson type situation at 22 years old. I thought about all of the things that I had done and all of the things that I wanted to do and it bothered me that I could think of so many things on the “haven’t done” list.

So here I am, a little late on the bandwagon, but here nonetheless with my list of things to accomplish before I die. I couldn’t do my list like any normal person though, with “go camping” or “see the mona lisa” on it (although I have done the first a ton and will do the second). I’m a partyer, a gambler, a risk taker, a personality, and I fancy myself somewhat of a drinker. Some mundane list just won’t do.

Drinking

1. Drink tequila at the same place it’s made
2. Go on a ‘Fear and Loathing’ bender while on a road trip and mobile
3. Do a body shot in the middle of a crowded bar and then get one done off of me
4. Drink three 190 Octanes from Fat Tuesday’s in Las Vegas in one night
5. Beat my friend Wade’s Edward 40 Hands record of 6 minutes
6. Keep going to the World Series of Beer Pong as long as I can
7. Create a drink that becomes common to order

Gambling

8. Play in the main event of the World Series of Poker
9. Flush a $100 chip down a casino toilet  (stealing this from Aarde)
10. Play $100 craps
11. Bet $500 on a hand of blackjack
12. Gamble in a high roller room
13. Gamble in a foreign country

Sports

14. Shoot my Sidesaddle 30-30 rifle while riding a horse, like the cowboys did
15. Shoot a sawed-off shotgun
16. Land a flip on a wakeboard and snowboard
17. Go helicopter snowboarding or “heliboarding”
18. Drive on the Autobahn
19. Drive a 10 second quarter mile
20. Go marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas
21. Dunk a basketball

Music

22. Go to an arena concert of more than 20,000 people
23. See Led Zeppelin live
24. Go to a rave
25. Write an album’s worth of music
26. Perform with a band

Travel

27. Drink beer at Oktoberfest in Munich
28. Get kicked out of a tent or bar during Oktoberfest
29. Drink a Guiness in Dublin
30. Take the “gross shot” at a bar in Dublin
31. Party all night in Ibiza
32. Cause a scene in a bar in a foreign country
33. Go to the true Mardi Gras
34. Visit Rio during Carnival
35. Go to Monte Carlo during a Gran Prix
36. Move to a foreign country
37. Visit all seven continents
38. Go to the Cannes Film Festival

General

40. Get a tattoo that I’ll laugh at every time I see it
