Santa Clarita, CA

I’m a lover not a fighter, but I’m also a fighter so don’t get any ideas. I travel, party, and sometimes rant about anything that comes to mind.

I grew up in Santa Clarita, CA. It’s a “small town” of 150,000+ people, twenty minutes outside of Hollywood, that nobody seems to have ever heard of. It’s surprising to me because they drop a nuclear missile on my town in the show 24, it’s where the first 3 seasons of Weeds were filmed, and Magic Mountain is there. If you’re one of the lucky people that has never heard of Santa Clarita, don’t bother finding it. I refer to it as suburban hell for a reason.

After high school, I escaped Santa Clarita and moved up to the central coast of California on a whim. My good friend Matt was going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I had never been there before, but had been accepted there among other places and decided that I would try out a new city. I loved the central coast and college life. I met a ton of new people, joined a fraternity, partied, and had an overall amazing time. I never really liked the “college” part of college though and quit school midway through my junior year. After that I took up a job as a cook, then as a graphic designer and office manager for a sign making company, and finally as a graphic designer for a web design agency.

A year after I started the last job I got really sick. I thought it was the flu, but it stayed with me for months. I finally went to the doctor and almost five months after I got sick I found out that I had Crohn’s Disease. I spent another month trying to get better before finally giving in and moving home to try and recover. Since then, I’ve been back in Santa Clarita and slowly getting better. While I’m not by any means fully recovered, I’m definitely better off than when I started. I’ve also learned a lot from getting sick and seeing how I react to affliction. As much as I can, I try not to let this disease get in the way of living my life. I even took my first international plane ride to Colombia for my friend’s wedding in the height of my illness and weight loss and proved a lot to myself with that experience.

I’m not sure where I’m going or how I’m getting there, but every step is a party and an experience to share in all their randomness.
